Electronic 17 was founded in 2014 by Kat Richmond, who’s aim was to bring together a community of DJs, producers and live electronic artists living in Walthamstow. The aim, to showcase their music at a variety of venues and festivals. Kat kicked off the project at Stow Festival in 2014, and went on to manage the electronic music programming for the festival in the following years. 

Electronic 17 events showcase a range of electronic music genres, and the group have worked with numerous venues in E17 including Mirth, Marvel & Maud, the Wild Card Brewery and hosted the infamous Pulse Studio parties. Over the last six years the events have ranged between late night ‘raves’, to live electronic showcases, to programming DJs for pubs. The collective also run introductory DJ workshops and music production and synth building seminars. They have also worked with local colleges, Big Creative Education and Leyton College, inviting students studying music production to play their ‘first festival gig’ at the Walthamstow Garden Party every year.

Currently, Electronic 17 have a bi-monthly residency at the Hare and Hounds pub. They also host the two-day Bleeps and Hops at the Wild Card Brewery each August, and are the hosts of the Glittering Plains stage at the Walthamstow Garden Party each July in Lloyd Park.

Alongside the local talent, Electronic 17 have invited some incredible guests, real pioneers of electronic music in the UK, to play for them such as Ashley Beedle (Xpress2 / Black Science Orchestra), Leif (Freerotation Festival / UntilMyHeartStops), Ewan Pearson (Misericord / Kompakt), Lascelle Gordon (Vibration Black Finger / Brand New Heavies), Faze Action (Faze Action Records), A Guy Called Gerald (808 State), Justin Robertson (The Deadstock 33s / Lionrock), Timothy J. Fairplay (The Asphodells / Crimes of the future), and Mercury Music Prize winner Talvin Singh.

What is the best creative 'hack' you have discovered during lockdown?
Working on converting the Glittering Plains stage to a virtual stream has been challenging, but enormously interesting. Working with new technology has allowed us to continue to collaborate as a music community.
