La Mambanegra

Hailing from the Colombian salsa capital of Cali, this nine-piece orchestra live and breathe Salsa.

The recipe for La Mambanegra’s sound is complex – taking 70s New York Salsa as its base, mixing in elements of Jamaican and Colombian music and finishing off with flavours of funk and hip hop to create a unique genre, that band leader Jacobo Vélez calls ‘break salsa’. Their ability to bring a renewed urgency to a traditional genre has won them dedicated fans across South American and beyond.
