Doug Hream Blunt and The Messengers
San Franciso funk outsider Doug Hream Blunt is joined by The Messengers, a group comprised of Masters’ students at the Guildhall School and people who seek support from St Mungo’s Homeless Charity.
In the late 1980s, a 35 year old San Franciscan with no existing musical ability decided to take an evening class called ‘How to start a band’. That man was Doug Hream Blunt, and what followed the most unlikely of stories which saw him go from complete obscurity, self-recording and releasing records and performing to elderly people in the hospital where he worked as a nurse’s aid, to international acclaim performing with the likes of Ariel Pink and releasing records on David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label. At Walthamstow, Blunt is joined by The Messengers, who he initially partnered up with at 2016’s Field Day Festival. The collaboration proved so popular that they ended up recording tracks together in New York for Blunt’s upcoming album.
