Be Part of Creating a Welcome to Fellowship Island

Each year Fellowship Island brings together a passionate brigade of food & drink producers, urban growers, local artists and organisations exploring ways to cultivate a closer connection with nature and community in the city. The Welcome Arch onto Fellowship Island is a very important part of our message as it sets the tone and acts like a beckon to Garden Party goers to draw them onto the Island.

Come and Join us for a day of Construction, Upcycling, Art Making, Plant Potting and Vibe Creating!

Friday 13th July

10am - Constructing The ARCH
Come and help! BAT Studio, a local architecture practice that works in both residential architecture and builds innovative installations, has designed and created a series of reconfigurable timber planters to wrap around the skeleton archway and we need help to put them together and make the body of the arch. After the festival the timber planters will be transformed into a series of smaller planters at a local community garden.

2pm - Plants and gardeners
The beautiful arch is nothing without the over pouring of plants and flowers that make it such a welcoming sight. We have growers and businesses around the area donating plants but any unwanted or excess plants you can bring to brighten the planters would be brilliant. Come and help pot them up and place them within and around the archway. Unusual plant pots welcomed!! Broken watering cans, teapots, sinks, you get the idea.

2pm - Making a Grand Entrance…Family Artwork Shop
Join artist Sandie M Sutton and help in the creation of an upcycled addition to the colourful archway. One use plastics can get a second life by making them into fabulous blooms, beautiful birds and butterflies. This activity will be running all afternoon and continuing after school finishes until 5pm.

3pm – Dreamers and Diggers Backdrop and ornaments
Using broken tools to make an x-ray stencil for the D&D stage backdrop. Tools to then be used to decorate the arch and sign boards across the island. Led by local artist Lorraine Huddle.

Come and help all day or just drop in

Don't forget to come and help with the derig on Sunday 15th July after 6pm.
