Barbican pop-up Cinema

Barbican and The Stow Film Lounge join forces again for a fantastic weekend of family films old and new. Each day in the Winns Gallery, we'll be screening two alternate shorts programmes on the hour - each with a very different twist.

Slapstick and Silliness will be a selection of the best short films with a spotlight on physical comedy and hilarious antics - featuring contemporary animation, rarely seen international gems and an archive classic from the master himself, Buster Keaton, including One Week and The Scarecrow

Fairytales and Fantasies is an assortment of fables, myths and legends full of magic and wonder. We'll be bringing you some of the most beautiful and thoughtful stories from around the world including two archival treasures from Lotte Reiniger, Cinderella and The Three Wishes, a filmmaker famous for her fabulously intricate silhouette animations.

We're delighted to welcome pianists Stephen Horne and Neil Brand to the Walthamstow Garden Party to accompany the silent films within each shorts programme (Stephen will be playing on Saturday, Neil on Sunday).

Each programme run time: approx 45mins
Entry to the film screenings is free, but the capacity of Winns Gallery is limited and space is on a first come, first served basis. Please arrive ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
