BARBICAN MUSIC STAGE

This is where you’ll see artists from around the world, picked by our Contemporary Music programmers. It’s like bringing the Barbican’s stage to E17.

This year’s highlights include Malian star Fatoumata Diawara, Brazilian Soul singer Dona Onete, Dub pioneers Adrian Sherwood & Creation Rebel and more.

NEWS FROM NOWHERE STAGE

Discover dance, circus and physical theatre at the News from Nowhere stage, with performances, workshops and demos for everyone to get involved in.Company Wayne McGregor make their Walthamstow Garden Party debut with excerpts from two dance works by multi award-winning choreographer and director Wayne McGregor. MovE17, a dance group for people of all ages and abilities, will be performing a work inspired by RAIN by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, set to the original score by Steve Reich.

X7eaven Academy will present a showcase of local young people’s dance and Walthamstow Youth Circus, a local group of gravity defying young people will be performing their amazing aerial skills on trapezes, ropes and hoops alongside their international all-star circus guests who will also be offering free aerial circus workshops throughout the festival. Local artist.

Del Taylor will be running open access workshops with the community to create a forest of bicycle wheel propellers and windmills.

In 2018 the development and delivery of the News from Nowhere stage is led by the participants of the first Creative Citizen Fellowship: Sam Francis, Layla Rosa, Del Taylor and Clare Farrow. Find out more about them and their projects here.

EARTHLY PARADISE TENT

A showcase of local talent, both young and more experienced. The programme includes Choir 17, Frederick Bremer Choir and Natural Voices. On Saturday there’s an evening of young creatives’ work including Urban Flames, Barbican Young Poets and Drum Works. Closing the stage on Sunday will be music sets from Danalogue and DJ Ulrich Schnauss presented by local record label Byrd Out.


FELLOWSHIP ISLAND

 

Inspired by William Morris’s visions of a free and fulfilled society, Fellowship Island brings together a passionate brigade of food and drink producers, urban growers, local artists and organisations exploring ways to cultivate a closer connection with nature and community in the city in a sustainable way.

Head for Lloyd Park’s moated island for artisan food and drink in the Appetite Food Market, talks, demos and performances on the Dreamer & Diggers Stage, workshops, talks and discussions in the Forest Lounge and much much more! If you’re interested in getting involved then find more info here.

GLITTERING PLAINS DANCE TENT


Electronic 17 and Soul Picnic are pleased to be back at the Glittering Plains Dance Tent once again! Showcasing some of the hardest working local party organisers and DJs in Walthamstow, in partnership with the Stow Festival, the programme for the weekend will shine a spotlight on those who have tirelessly worked to bring some great music to this corner of north east London. And that's not all - the guests this year are incredible too!

Saturday's line up features newcomers to the festival, We Can Be Heroes, with their superhero family disco takeover, and Feminist Jukebox curators PoP Campaign. Also playing will be Soul Picnic's Dom Mandrell and Electronic 17's Kat Richmond, alongside special guests Pete Fowler (Seahawks) and Citizen Helene (Fair Maiden Records), High Fashion Technique (Netil Radio), Dave Congreve (Soma Records) and Nu Disco pioneers, Faze Action.

Sunday will kick off with a special performance from one of the Big Creative Academy's students, followed by Eastern Front Soundsystem, Patrick Steele (Soul In The Stow) and Patrick Richmond (Raising The Funking Bar). Our special guests are Daisy Heartbreaker (We Love Space Ibiza / Deep Love), Samantha Blackburn (Buntu), and Timothy J. Fairplay (Crimes Of The Future / The Asphodells).

USEFUL & BEAUTIFUL 

Join local makers, learn a new skill and become a super human hybrid in the Blackhorse Workshop Makers Marquee. You can pick up a lovingly and locally made designer piece from E17 Designers, catch a short film with Stow Film Lounge at the William Morris Gallery, and even do some weaving. 

For the fourth year, the area is supported by local business The Stow Brothers.

 


Around the Park

As well as our key areas and stages, there will be lots of pop-up events, sporting activities, street food and bars around the park, including Real Food Festival’s mouth-watering line-up of street food, the Wild Card Craft Ale Tent, new Festival Bars for the extra thirsty and much more to be announced.
